PUBLIKA TANJUNG SELOR – The search for a person who went missing after reportedly falling into the Jelarai River in Bulungan Regency has ended tragically. The victim, identified by the initials KDP, was found dead on Wednesday (August 12, 2026).
Ps. Public Relations Section Head Aipda Hadi said the victim was found at around 12:00 p.m. WITA in the Jelarai River, RT 013/RW 006, near the Jelarai Selor Water Treatment Facility (PDAM), Jelarai Selor Village, Tanjung Selor District.
The victim was found approximately 4 kilometers from the original incident site.
The body was discovered by Ismail T (44), a local fisherman from Jelarai Selor Village. At the time, Ismail was using a boat to assist with the search operation.
While searching near the PDAM intake facility, Ismail reportedly saw the victim’s body caught in a whirlpool. He immediately approached the location, retrieved the victim, and transported the body to the search command post.
“The victim was found by a fisherman in a deceased condition, approximately 4 kilometers from the initial incident site,” Aipda Hadi said.
Following the discovery, the victim’s body was taken to the family home to be washed and prepared for funeral prayers.
The victim was then scheduled to be buried at the public cemetery in Kilometer 12, Gunung Sari Village, Tanjung Selor District, Bulungan Regency.
The discovery brought the search operation to an end after authorities and local residents had been searching for the victim since the initial report of the drowning incident.
